How to make a talking horse video on your iPhone
Talking horse videos are a favourite on TikTok and Reels. Here is how to make one from your own horse, with the words written on the video and a voice to say them.
1. Film when the calls come
You need a real sound to work with, so film when horses tend to call: at feed time, when you arrive at the gate, or when a field mate is brought back in. Get close, keep the wind off the phone’s microphone, and film vertically for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
2. Let Neigh translate the call
Neigh, the horse translator for iPhone, finds the whinnies, nickers and snorts in your clip and translates each one into a line, written onto the video as a subtitle. In Live mode you keep the camera rolling and the lines pop up seconds after your horse calls. You can also pick a clip you already have from your camera roll.
3. Give it a voice
Pick a personality for your horse in the Locker, from Plain to Dramatic, and the lines come out in it. With Neigh Plus, choose a voice and an accent and hear each line read aloud in English.
4. Dress it up
Swipe through the looks before you film. Each 3D look follows your horse’s head as it turns and nods, so a hat or a pair of shades stays put on a horse that will not wear the real thing.
5. Share it
The clip you save has the line burnt in, so it reads with the sound off. Add a caption to the post, and keep your yard’s address and landmarks out of the shot.
Doing it by hand
You can also write a line yourself, add it as text in any video editor and record a voiceover. It takes longer, and the line comes from you rather than from a call your horse actually made.
